My dearest companion, I just read a post on Instagram that resonated deeply with me that I am compelled to write to you.
The post read “Real transformation is rarely about doing more. It is about doing less”.
It reminded me of a conversation that I had with myself after receiving rejection emails for grants that I had applied for. I urged myself to do more. I was making plans for the next steps and how to move forward, until my Chi said to me “Sis, be still and look at the plans you have already made”.
Go back and finish up on the things you already started before you begin to think of starting something new. Moving forward isn't always about starting a new venture. It can be wrapping up the ones you have already started. It can be sitting back to reflect on the things you have done. It can be being still and doing nothing for some time.
There is a part of some of us that feels that when we fail it is because we are not doing enough.
What if it is because you are doing too much and not doing it well?
What if you are enough and the growth you need is to see that and fine-tune your skills and knowledge?
What if it is for you to continue on the path you are on and that the rejection and failures are meant to help you re-strategise what you are already working on?
At the beginning of this year, I did tell myself that my motto was to do less better, and it has, time and time again, proven to be the right state of mind be at even with the ups and downs that I have experienced.
One of the disadvantages of the modern world is that we want to do more faster but is that aligned with our humanity and well-being?
I don’t think so.
I implore you, my dear companion, that when you face failure, change, pain, and strife and you feel that need to do more, a worthy alternative response can be to sit back, take a deep breath and look at what you have done and what are already doing.
They might just be good enough.
With love,
A
